As evidenced by the 16 million people trapped in forced labor in the private economy alone in 2016, it is clear that slavery is a global problem. The laws surrounding modern slavery have become more stringent in recent years, as national governments take action to eliminate human trafficking within their borders and in the supply chains of imported products.
